What are Bioidentical Hormones?

The phrase "bioidentical hormones" can be confusing.

Synthetic hormones are those that are chemically different than what your body produces. Some birth control pills and other medications utilize these forms of hormones.

On the other hand, bioidentical hormones are considered chemically identical or very similar to the hormones naturally produces by the body.

Years ago, the only forms of hormone replacement therapy were considered synthetic and were derived from animal hormones.

There are FDA-approved hormone therapy that are considered bio-identical.

In other words, "bioidentical" doesn't automatically mean safer.
